Playstation 2 lag,
This is a decent product.. I’ve tested the USB with a 500Gb hard drive (powered through USB) and with simple memory sticks.. It is pretty cool and the TV software allows you to have a slideshow of images while playing a folder of music. ALbeit you can’t seem to randomize the music. It also automatically starts playing the next video if you open a folder load.. which tends to mean I watch too many in a row :). It doesn’t support every filetype imaginable.. like .ogg music files, but it did a good job will all my mpg and avi files regardless of encoding. Interestingly it failed to play the legitimate videos I recorded with my Canon Powershot G9 – but even windows media player has given up on that.. so I think my camera is messed up.
One problem I encountered was with the PS2. Fighting games like Tekken suffer from way too much lag. The PS2 doesn’t output the high resolution, so the TV is upscaling it, from what I understand, and this takes a second.. so I found it impossible to play accurately. This is a known phenomenon explained elsewhere if you search “PS2 high definition lag.” Sadly I’ve not found a way round it, but it is probably time to take the leap to a PS3 anyway.
I mainly use the LG through my PC so I can use internet, and VLC media player for all my content… colour seems fine, there is a patch of white towards the bottom middle of my screen when viewing really dark stuff. but I never notice it is normal circumstances, and I also have a lot of poor quality videos.
For sound I realised my PC speakers are better for music, but for TV and background music it is fine.. just don’t expect it to replace your hifi.
As a TV, it does everything I wanted. The remote D-button is a little awkward tho.. I thought I needed time to get used to it, but after a month I’m still accidentally pressing buttons below the up-down-left-right instead of what I’m going for.
Basically, it ain’t perfect, but what in this life actually is?
