  1. The 3D experience is great and literally adds another dimension. Content is a problem though but it is interesting to try to roll your own. “Half Side-by-side” (H-SBS) is easiest format if playing content from a PC. Otherwise it’s Bluray. There’s difficulties with creating 3D across the industry which makes it not work in comparison to 2D such as dolly shots, depth of field, framing etc. which means filmmakers have to learn a new visual language and new techniques. Things can only get better.

  2. @sidneywatts42 Yes, I don’t like it either since it makes even very cinematic movies look like cheap video productions.

Thanks for the info. The fact is that the 200HZ motion flow wizardry actually causes blurring instead of reducing it. It’s better with it off so why pay more for a TV that has it?

  4. @SadlerJohnson

Thanks for explaining that. I couldn’t understand why it says 50HZ next to the channel name. Apparently most programmes are broadcast at 50HZ not 200HZ. The TV supposedly upgrades it to 200HZ.

  5. @sidneywatts42 Standard PAL video is 50fps (that’s fields not frames) which means 50Hz is the minimum required to display PAL TV and video (DVDs, BluRay etc). The 200Hz is used in two situations (that I know of): 1. for creative frame interpolation which aims to smooth video motion and; 2. 3D which requires a higher frame rate (100hz I think) to display both eye images. The 50Hz on the back of the screen may refer to the AC mains frequency which is the standard in the UK.

  6. Hello, I have a Samsung LE46C750 but am confused about the 200HZ thing. When I change channel it says 50HZ in the top left corner of the screen next to the channel number etc. Why not 200HZ? It also says 50HZ on the sticker stuck to the back of the TV.

Can anyone please help explain why?

  7. @saadwaseem Aaah! You’ve found the limitation – yes, it is not great but the PiP only allows you to have the inbuilt tuner displayed in the sub-picture. I think I mentioned this before.

  8. @dyson154 In my opinion for the full impact from 3d I prefer the screen to come close to filling my perpheral vision, i.e. for a 46″ screen I only want to be a couple of metres maximum from the screen. With full HD this is more reasonable because there’s much more detail to see. AFAIK, there’s no specific distance required for 3d and certainly my 3d glasses work from as little as 1m. When reasonably close to the screen you get more of that IMAX effect.

  9. I’m looking at buying this tv, however I’m concerned that my living room is not big enough to get full impact from 3D. By this I mean is there a recommended distance to get good 3D effect?

  10. so I got pip up but it only allows me to use air and cable but i have a satellite box with hdmi output. is there a way to get pip to work with hdmi?

  11. JFHC! VIMEO has arrived and it is FANTASTIC. Great interface, linked to Vimeo account, full HD and some stunning videography played on this TV is awesome. Set a video going and it just keeps going through the category. You can tag videos to watch later if you’ve set up an account. This widget was, IS number 1 on my wish list and I’m more than happy with it’s implementation. If there was a widget to get a Samsung TV for this would be it.

  12. @thescriptillusion It sounds like there’s nothing to stop you from having LOVEFiLM on your bluray – as long as it’s connected to the internet, you’re in the UK and you have a LOVEFiLM account. LF needs to register your device before you can start using it – this is done on the web using a code from your bluray player (i’m guessing this is the same as my TV). If your TV has internet@TV then it should be the same for your TV. LF is also available on the PS3 if your have one of those.

  13. I have a samsung TV and a samsung bluray DVD player. When I try to connect to LOVEFiLM through the bluray player it says “coming soon” anyone know how soon?

Also, can I connect through my TV alone or does it have to be through the bluray player? I can’t see any button on the TV remote that suggests this, but on the bluray remote it says “internet@TV” . Thanks. THIS IS AWESOME.

  14. @saadwaseem PIP can be enabled to show the built-in tuner as the sub picture. To do this, select a source that isn’t TV (e.g. componenet, HDMI etc) then Menu|Setup|PiP and set it to “On”. Choose “Audio from Sub” if you want to listen to TV while browsing the web or whatever.

  15. @dickiedocker The LED backlit panels are thinner and lighter and I believe use less power but they are edge lit through a diffuser just the same and I couldn’t see any difference in PQ between them in the shop. For me this panel was relatively much better value.

  16. Hey I’m really thinking about getting this tv but do you think I should pay more for the Ied version the 8000? What do you think

  17. Yea I tried that, im still trying to figure it out, I’m in Canada so I would assume there would be more because there’s about a total of 20? I will contact samsung, thanks for your help

  18. @awaud55 Thanks. I’m afraid we’re at the mercy of Samsung (and possibly Yahoo) for the provision of widgets and they’re offering is quite disappointing up to now. I believe different countries get different apps but there’s no way AFAIK to load apps on to the TV. However, new apps DO appear on to the device every few weeks or so. If you’ve not done it yet, do a software upgrade from the setup menu – that added some yahoo stuff for me which I think allows for more kinds of apps. WANT VIMEO NOW
